As soon as the first snowflakes of the winter start to fall, you’ll find me outdoors. In fact, those first few flakes led to a lifelong addiction. I was 15 when I started snowboarding, but since then I’ll get myself out of bed for all sorts of other outdoor activities, such as alpine skiing, hiking, cross-country skiing and cycling. But I’m happiest when I’m close to the snow and the mountains. I worked for 12 years at SnowWorld [the indoor ski centre in Parkstad] and gave skiing lesons for one season in Flachau and since 2008 I’ve been giving skiing lessons in Austria every winter to disabled kids. Sadly, the snow doesn’t fall all year round, so to feed my addiction, in the summer I cycle and walk in the Limburg hills every week. The advantage of having an ‘addiction’ is that you meet like-minded people and that was how I got to know Toon.
