What a great festival!

One big party

An exciting Awards Show; champagne moments with award winners, actors and filmmakers; fascinating conversations with adventure writers; the auction of a signed polar travel journal; mingling in the foyer and sharing authentic mountain food with filmmakers and climbers; alphorn blowers in front of the entrance; red carpet shots with mountain equipment and a cow; mountain bike clinics and a summit-to-summit ride on Sunday. And much, much more … Not to mention all the fantastic films we screened. The prize-winning films proved popular, but so too BERG, Godspeed, los Polacos and 49 Summits were worthy runners-up. In short: we had a whale of a time!

DMFF#11 Summit Saturday

‘What a great and inspiring festival! Fantastic films and a great atmosphere. How silly of me not to have travelled south before and instead waited until I was invited to talk as part of the ‘Freedom to Roam’ panel. My latest book concerned my solo 3000 km trip through the Norwegian mountains, so a return ticket by train to Heerlen is a walk in the park. Good luck with the 12th edition of the DMFF. I´m really looking forward to that.’
Myra de Rooy (author)

‘I came to Heerlen with my head in a spin, but you soon sorted that one out. You really are such a nice bunch’
Ernst Arbouw (presenter, editor of NKBV Hoogtelijn and journalist for de Volkskrant)

‘Big celebration! Congratulations!!!’
Nate Manninger (filmmaker)

‘With great pleasure I look back on a beautiful festival, fantastic films, public (?) drunkenness, nice stories and, mostly, friendship. I’m looking forward to next year.’
Merlijn Huntjens (writer)

‘Great organisation by Joep and his team! Many thanks to Dutch Mountain Film Festival’
Johan de Niet (director of Filmhuis de Spiegel, joined the Summit2Summit Ride)
