Mountain guide, climber and filmmaker François Damilano follows French/Swiss/Canadian Sophie Lavaud, who is not a professional climber, but wants to climb all fourteen 8000-metre peaks in the Himalayas. François met Sophie during her first expedition to Shishapangma in 2012, followed her to the summit of Everest in 2014, and in this film we see him accompanying her in her efforts to conquer Nanga Parbat with Sangay Sherpa. Damilano’s narrative is told from the perspective of an experienced mountaineer working at a great height.
Sophie Lavaud – The Final Summit is the story of a 40-day expedition to the roof of the world. It is a human story, with disappointments and total honesty.
Sophie does not once refer to herself as a professional climber, even though after reaching the highest fourteen summits in the Himalaya, she has now started on the highest summits on the seven continents. Sophie can be regularly seen climbing in Nepal and Pakistan, but is also as an ambassador for Terre des Hommes.
This film will be screened on Wednesday 6 november in Apollo Kino in one block with Diciassette.
