New Alpine architecture in South Tyrol

In South Tyrol, too, contemporary construction in high alpine regions represents a major challenge. The modern appearance of some new mountain huts has been the source of some degree of controversy. However, the advantages of using new materials for these structures cannot be disputed.

This film is one of a five-part series about building in the mountains and the challenges that this brings. The architects struggle with difficult terrain and inhospitable weather: snow and heavy rains. In their designs, architects try their best to take all these elements into consideration. Present-day architects often find themselves rediscovering the aesthetics of ancient building methods.
