New Alpine architecture in Bavaria

Year: 2022

Director: Birgit Eckelt

Playing time: 44'

Language: English

If buildings have to be built in the high mountains, it’s best to employ the very best architects. Construction in the Alps is characterised by a focus on architecture for summer and winter tourism. In Bavaria too, it is in the mountain resorts and holiday homes where good design and innovative architecture is most apparent.

This film is one of a five-part series about building in the mountains and the challenges that this brings. The architects struggle with difficult terrain and inhospitable weather: snow and heavy rains. In their designs, architects try their best to take all these elements into consideration. Present-day architects often find themselves rediscovering the aesthetics of ancient building methods.
