New Alpine architecture in Austria

Year: 2017

If buildings have to be built in the high mountains, it’s best to employ the very best architects. In popular skiing and hiking destinations in Austria, it is mainly tourist facilities that are characterised by unusual design and the use of innovative materials.

This film is one of a five-part series about building in the mountains and the challenges that this brings. The architects struggle with difficult terrain and inhospitable weather: snow and heavy rains. In their designs, architects try their best to take all these elements into consideration. Present-day architects often find themselves rediscovering the aesthetics of ancient building methods.
