Luzhba – Creating a new reality
After the fall of communism, two lads from the industrial town of Novokuznetsk in Siberia dream of virgin white powder snow. They want to make ski films just like the videos they watch together. On their first improvised ski trip to Luzhba they almost freeze to death. After that, nothing can stop them. For twenty years they have been exploring the spectacularly deep snow around Luzhba.
‘Whatever the circumstances, you should always try to make your dreams come true,’ says filmmaker and mountaineer André Costa. That is exactly what Anton Lementuev and his friends did. ‘It makes the world a bit better if people can go to beautiful places like Luzhba,’ muses the off-piste skier.
During editing of the film, Russia invaded Ukraine. Neither Costa nor Lementuev shy away from this brutal reality.
This film will be screened in one block together with Ski Vacation and Fedchanko, the forgotten glacier.
