Everest, the young Yeti
‘Everest: the young Yeti’ is an epic adventure of three teenagers and a young yeti who travel from a rooftop in Shanghai to the rooftop of the world: the Himalaya.
This children’s film is in Dutch (Heerlen) and German (Aachen) only – no English subtitles.
This 2019 film was the first American animation film with a Asian-American family in the lead role. In the original English version, Tenzing Norgay Trainor gives his voice to Jin, one of the Yi’s friends who comes along on the journey. Tenzing Norgay Trainor is the grandson of Tenzing Norgay, who was the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest, together with Sir Edmund Hillary.
As teenager Yi (Chloe Bennet / Tara Hetharia) discovers the young yeti, she and her friends Jin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor / Roben Mitchell) and Peng (Albert Tsai / Matheu Hinzen) decide to call him ‘Everest’. They plan to reunite the magical creature with his family in the breathtaking snowy Himalayan landscape, thousands of kilometres away. However, they need to keep enemies off their back along the way. Zoologist Dr Zara (Sarah Paulson / Kim van Kooten) and businessman Burnish (Eddie Izzard / Derek de Lint) want to catch the yeti at all costs.
Yi is also the name of the mountain natives in the south of China. As a girl’s name it means happiness, shining like a pearl.
