Elisabeth
The DMFF is always happy with entries of new mountain films, especially if they match the standard of Elisabeth. The chief protagonist in this French film is not only a skiing champion, but also a resistance fighter, who tries to cross the French-Swiss border during the Second World War at a place where she has the least chance of being caught, high in the mountains.
Her objective is to smuggle a map showing new escape routes across the border. The foul weather forces her to spend the night in a mountain hut on Col de Balme. She shares this overnight refuge with men who are on the look-out for members of the resistance like Elisabeth. Her mission is to get through the night without giving away her identity.
Caroline Tillette (1988) is the lead actor and director. The Parisienne is mainly known as an actor in a great many TV series and several feature films. Elisabeth is her debut film as a director.
This film will be screened in one block together with Between Summits (in Dutch) and House of the Gods.
