The Biennale Arte Dolomiti organises a biennial international exhibition with works of art that are given a suitable setting within the mountain landscape. While art in the built environment can often raise questions as well as eyebrows, in an unspoilt landscape with a traditional population, this is even more so.
Director Timian Hopf follows the organisers during their preparations and also gives voice to opponents of the exhibition. These include local farmers, uninterested in art, as well as the Alpine Club, which believes that mountains should not be used for this purpose. Isn’t nature beautiful on its own? And isn’t this beauty and purity the personification of art?
