In the space of just two months, a new volcano came into existence on the island of La Palma in the Canaries in 2021. This new volcano erupted close to homes and cultivated land situated in this volcanic mountain region. The film centres on a group of friends who have lived on the island all their lives and who share their experiences of this awesome display of natural forces on their doorstep via audio messages.

The filmmakers, David Pantaleón and Jose Víctor Fuentes, both come from the Canary Islands. Their dream to film a volcanic eruption came about sooner than they had expected. Against the background of mesmerizingly beautiful images of fire and brimstone, the friends share their fears, uncertainties and friendship.

Pantaleón has made a number of short films. In 2021, he won an award for ‘Our Father’, his debut film, at the Seville Film Festival. Fuentes has produced several feature films and organises the film festival on La Palma each year. Their joint documentary, ‘An Inhabited Volcano’ won several awards last year.

This film will be screened in one block with Axie en de Wunder Dachsies
