Bergen & Bouwen

The theme of this year’s DMFF is Bergen & Bouwen. or ‘mountains and man-made structures’. Humankind has always tried to harness and overcome the forces of nature, even in the mountains. Should we see these awe-inspiring interventions as feats of human ingenuity, or of vainglory? During this year’s Dutch Mountain Film Festival much of the discussion will focus on this theme.

Thursday 24 oktober 8 pm Berghut Halverwege / Institute of Cartopology

Berghut Halverwege will be screening the films  New Alpine architecture in Austria and Recordings of a Weather Camera.

Beforehand, architects Marlies Vermeulen & Remy Kroese will be describing (in Dutch) how they built Berghut Halverwege, the ‘mountain hut’ in which the Institute of Cartopology is now housed.

They will be giving the same presentation on Tuesday 5 November, in combination with the screening of the film Bergwiesen, vom Schwenden und Heuen.

Sunday 3 November at 4 pm: Matteo Thun and the GTB Lab

In the GTB Lab, there will be a screening of the film Matteo Thun, bouwmeester van de bergen. Prior to the screening, Elma Durmisevic, founder and creator of the GTB Lab, will be giving a guided tour of the test lab and knowledge institute on circular construction.

This will be followed by a discussion Elma Durmisevic and Emmanuel Laugs, an ecological architect who specialises in the restoration and transformation of traditional half-timbered houses made with wattle and daub.

Please note: the discussions will be in Dutch

Saturday 9 November at 3.30 pm: Fleur Muris and Swiss architecture

The New Regional Bauhaus aan de Promenade in Heerlen will be hosting an event on Saturday afternoon, namely the screening of Myosotis (about the imminent construction of a dam) and New Alpine architecture in Switzerand.

In 2021, the Limburg architect Fleur Muris moved with her family to the Swiss mountains. After the film she will be talking about her observations with respect to both Limburg and Valais, what they have in common and the problems and opportunities they both face.

Please note: the discussion will be in Dutch
