Awards walk
We’ve always said Aachen is close to Heerlen. Now here’s the proof . Why not join us for the Awards Walk, an energetic trail from the Apollo Kino in Aachen, which wends its way through some beautiful upland scenery to the Royal Theater in Heerlen? On our way we will pass a sculpture exhibition by Leo Horbach in the Karksgarten on the outskirts of Aachen.
For years, Leo Horbach, our very own in-house sculptor, has been producing the DMFF Awards which are awarded to prize-winning filmmakers. We will be collecting his trophies and taking them to Heerlen, where we will arrive at the Royal Theater just in time for the Awards Show, at which prizes are awarded for the best mountain films.
Awards Trailrun
For those who find walking a bit too pedestrian, running is permitted too! The Awards Walk Trailrun starts at 11 am. The Trailrun too starts at the Apollo Kino and follows the same route to the Royal cinema in Heerlen. The trailrunners’ arrival time is estimated at between 1.30 and 2.30 pm. Runners will stick together, so the rule is we run at the pace of those running the most leisurely pace! On arrival there will be shower facilities and transport of clothing will be arranged. - At around 4 p.m. Bergsteigeressen – food prepared in true mountain-hut style – will be available for participants at the Royal Theater (not free-of-charge)
- Hikers from the Netherlands can join the walk at Aachen West railways station
