Ascent of the Vaalserberg

By: Stichting Onbegrensd Avontuur with DMFF

When: Saturday 9 November 12:30

This year Onbegrensd Avontuur – which translates into English as ‘boundless adventure’ – has climbed each of Zuid-Limburg’s Seven Summits. Not bad, considering some of the participants are unable to walk. But hey, that’s impossible? we hear you say. Well, that’s where you’re wrong. Onbegrensd Avontuur uses Joëlettes, a special wheelchair which is able to overcome the most difficult of obstacles. During the DMFF, we will be climbing the Vaalserberg. A giant of a mountain, the Everest of the Netherlands. Anyone can join us on this epic adventure. Will we succeed in reaching the summit?

For the last of our adventures this year, we have opted for the greatest challenge yet: the ascent of the highest point in the Netherlands, the Vaalserberg! This will be a proper expedition: with the aid of a map and compass, we will be attempting to reach the real summit of the Vaalserberg, not the one which is sold to tourists as being the top, but the point which was recently mapped by the DMFF along with the Institute of Cartopology as being the actual summit. Anyone can join us, whether you can walk or not. This is a great adventure and we’ll make sure everyone gets to the top.

On Monday 4 November, there was a presentation by Onbegrensd Avontuur of the ascents of the Seven Summits at Adelante in Hoensbroek.

The presentation was organised by the Dutch Mountain Film Festival in association with Adelante and has been made possible with the support of the Elisabeth Strouven Fonds and Stichting Kanunnik Salden Nieuwenhof.
